Reduce carbon emissions – Build a better future

Climate Change

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges we’re facing as a species. Human activity over the last 200 years has meant that we’re standing on the brink of an environmental disaster. More frequent and intense drought, storms, heatwaves, rising sea levels, melting glaciers and warming oceans can directly harm animals, destroy the places they live, and wreak havoc on people’s livelihoods and communities. As climate change worsens, dangerous weather events are becoming more frequent or severe.

Yet we still can do things that can minimise the damage. Reducing your carbon footprint is one such action. We take a look at what this means and what steps you can take.

The Biggest Causes of a Carbon Footprint

So, what is it that’s driving these emissions? And how does that impact your carbon footprint? There are a few main industries that create the majority of the greenhouse gasses we produce.

Global data shows the main culprits:

To reduce our carbon footprint, we all want to do things like reduce the amount of energy we use, eat fewer animal products, shop locally, travel smart, and reduce our waste.

Road, Sky, Home

One of the most effective ways to start to reduce your carbon footprint is to reconsider how much, and how often, you travel. Taking one fewer long round-trip flight could shrink your personal carbon footprint significantly.

How we can all help:

How Businesses Like Wyldecrest are Looking to Reduce Emissions?

‘Radical new climate change commitments will set the UK on course to cut carbon emissions by 78% by 2035’, the UK government has announced. We can minimise our carbon footprint and help the environment in many different ways. Whether at home, work, school, or while you travel, small changes can add up. As a company committed to reducing our emissions, we are in the process of implementing a number of steps

"We can reduce emissions by shifting to alternative technologies and that is why we are moving all our sales fleet to electric cars.

We encourage all our employees to carpool, bike and walk to work which hopefully leads to fewer vehicles on the road and fewer greenhouse gases in the atmosphere."

Mr. Alfie Best, Chairman, Wyldecrest parks

"Our management team has been asked to reduce their need for flying. As much as possible – we are encouraging people to work through Zoom and use technology to continue to work efficiently and try to cut the need to travel and fly.

We are looking at alternative sources of energy as well."

Mr. Waseem Hanif, Managing Director, Wyldecrest Parks

Paperless

As a company, Wyldecrest Parks is trying to go paperless. We are encouraging our residents to move to paperless bills as much as possible as well. In terms of all our offices, we are moving to turning off the lights in the office in the evening and encouraging our employees to take devices off the plugs when it’s not needed.

We are also asking employees to avoid using disposable cups, stirrers and reduce the number of prints, reuse papers as drafts and sort waste for recycling correctly.

As part of our monthly ‘office-mingle’ we organize fun quizzes and contests to improve awareness among our employees and how small actions taken at home and office by every individual can add up.

Electric

We are installing car charging points in all our residential and holiday parks across the UK. Pictured above is our Bockenfield Holiday park.

We are also encouraging our residents and employees to move from their diesel/petrol cars to electric/hybrid cars. Wyldecrest Parks recently launched an incentive scheme offering cash incentives to employees who would like to purchase an electric car.

We are committed to being a Green Business. We understand and acknowledge our responsibility and we are committing ourselves to make the change.
