August 1st every year Yorkshire celebrates “Yorkshire Day” when all true-blooded Yorkshire folk come together and celebrate everything that is from Yorkshire including Black Sheep brewery beer on draught and locally donated red wine.This year, for the first time, Badgers Retreat flew the white rose of Yorkshire flag and organised an event that included the world famous, well it is in Yorkshire, its very own Badgers Retreat Welly Wanging Championships which this year was won by, Matty Smith, a holiday guest on the park with a wang of 45 metres.
Also included on the day was a 3-prize raffle draw with the first prize being a hamper full of Yorkshire goodies including a How Yorkshire are you book, flag, fridge magnet, Mug, pin badge, Yorkshire Pudding beer, Yorkshire tea, Yorkshire Brack (cake), Pontefract Cakes, Local Strawberry Jam, Local Caramelised Onion Pickle, Yorkshire Biscuits and crisps.
The second prize was a Yorkshire Cream Tea from the world-famous Kingfisher Café in Richmond and third prize being Yorkshire Pudding mix with a baking tray and a Yorkshire pudding recipe card explaining its origins.
First prize was won by our very own Eileen Beaty, Ryan Beaty won the second prize (lucky family) and third prize was first time guests on the park staying in No.46
Later, there was a prize bingo session including Wine for a line and Cash for a full house, BBQ burgers and Hot Dogs with some specialty cakes baked by Brenda from No.40.
Festivities continued on till late with dancing and the music being supplied by the parks very own resident DJ Clive who along with his wife Heather organised the whole event, but special thanks go to Brain and Jules from No. 6 who helped pulling the pints and took all the photo’s on the day and all the residents and holiday guests who made it a very special and great day.
